School Board and Cabinet Development

Making the Impact on Your Community You Strive For

You're on your local school board. You want to make a difference - an impact.

However, the group is divided... younger/older, conservative/progressive, mission/issue-driven.

School boards are more polarized then ever. Less and less is being accomplished. Children are suffering because of it.

Why is this happening?

  • There is a lack of trust amongst members
  • There are different communication styles
  • There are different worldviews and experiences
  • There are a lack of tools in the group to help them come together.

I GET IT!

As a youth basketball coach, I consistently see teams and players struggle to win, even when their will is strong, so I started asking the question - what’s different about winning teams and players? Are they faster or more talented? Do they put in more practice time? Do they have better strategies or drills?

The answer is maybe, but most teams do these things and are getting about the same results. Strategies and drills aren’t the game-changers. The big difference is the way they do the work and the way they show up every single day.

What happens in sport is the same within education.

The Afila Group Board Development Process

Board leaders that communicate best start with an understanding of who they are and why they communicate the way they do.

Then, they adjust to honor the frequencies of those they are working with, other board members.

Finally, over time, they learn and grow wider bands and
communication becomes second nature.

This allows for collaboration and more impact.
