Interesting quotes about thinking

In a previous post, I talked about coloring outside the lines. In that post, I mentioned Steve Jobs and his ability to see things in a different way and how many people marvel at that ability. I came across a post on a LinkedIn group with quotes from Steve Jobs and others that struck me.

Here are a few.

  • Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think. - Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. - Steve Jobs
  • Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it. - Henry Ford

Each of these three people defied convention and transformed how we see the world. How are you taking time to think through things, whether they be issues at home, your career, your friendships or your strategies at work? How are you respecting them?

Here's one last quote that came as a result of thinking. Sometimes hard thinking doesn't bring the best result.

"A fool and his money are soon parted. I would pay anyone a lot of money to explain that to me." - Homer Simpson
